Ikwuano Umuahia Association (IUA), Chicago is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Igbo heritage while building meaningful connections across cultures. We educate Chicagoland residents on the richness of Igbo culture while ensuring our traditions are preserved both here and in Nigeria, so the next generation can carry them forward.
Funds we raise not only support economic, educational, healthcare, and social development in Nigeria’s Igboland, but also benefit residents of Chicago through partnerships with local nonprofits and community organizations. In this way, IUA serves as a bridge: celebrating Igbo traditions while strengthening the broader community we call home.

This year’s gala seeks to raise $75,000 to expand our impact both in Nigeria’s Igboland and here in Chicagoland. Building on the success of 54 fully funded surgeries that restored health and dignity to families in Umuahia, we recognize that healing the body is just the first step. True transformation comes when individuals are also empowered to thrive economically.
Funds raised will support medical care for those still in need, while also providing grants for vocational training in crafts and trades to help residents start small businesses and achieve financial independence. At the same time, IUA Chicago is committed to partnering with local organizations to support educational and skills-building programs that promote self-reliance for residents here in the Chicago area. In this way, the gala not only sustains health and empowerment abroad, but also strengthens opportunities at home.
